Changing Sleeping Positions
Many of us
have developed strategies to counter snoring even though snoring is almost
inevitable as we age. Snoring is caused by blocked airways. Using sleep
techniques, special pillows, and basic health tips, snoring can be
stopped.
You should be
consulted by your doctor if you have severe snoring as this may indicate more
serious health issues. Although you may not be aware if you snore, your snoring can
be a major issue. You should find out why you snore if you do and begin the process
to fix this problem.
Only when you know
the problem can you begin to search for a solution. It is one thing to snore
occasionally due to being very tired or missing sleep. However, it is another issue
if you snore loudly every night. If this is the case, you should seek a cure. A
doctor that focuses on sleep disorders may be of assistance.
You can also change
your sleeping position to help. By sleeping on your side, you can eliminate some
snoring as most snoring
solution occurs while on your back. Snoring will
ultimately take a toll on your body.
You may develop
sleep apnea (when you stop breathing during sleep). Changing your sleeping position
will not help you and you should consult a doctor to get some sleep medicine. Sleep
apnea causes heart problems, high blood pressure, impotency, weight gain, and
headaches. We tend to snore more as we age.
Our muscles are not
as resilient as they once were. Soft tissue collapses and snoring occurs. Moving
onto your side or stomach can assist you if sleeping on your stomach is possible.
For some people, however, this position may be uncomfortable or unlikely to be
achieved. There are some products that can help you with your
issue.
Nasal strips help
those who have sinus or nasal irritation. Anti-snore pillows allow you to sleep in
different positions and maintain an aligned neck and head so your airway is
constantly open. Finally, surgery is also an option.
However, the
success rate is only slated at 50%. Natural, less invasive methods should be used
before surgery is explored to prevent snoring. You don’t have to put up with
snoring, though. As you get older, the condition will worsen and other health
problems may appear. The best way to prevent this is to change your sleeping habits
and use a snore pillow to sleep in certain new
positions.
